After a stormy Friday night woke up to a wet and blustery day on saturday. Skies were dark and heavy buy my spirits were light and sunny. For today I had my son for the day. These days for dads like me are so special. Our weekend of enjoying our children, too few moments of joy and happiness. 10 hours of forgetting the trials and tribulations of life, drown ourselves in love and celebrating that special love that exists between father and son.

Building block walls, castles, boats just to see them destroyed in 5 seconds, but gladly and happily rebuilding them time and time again. Wow, if this were a building project we would have had steam coming out of ears and be filled with anger. But a 4 year old boy gets away with it!!

A trip down the park, to participate in that normal life that only parents seem to be able to have. My son has become a petrolhead and adrenaline junkie! Swings must go higher than before, roundabouts faster, even rope slides that have a sudden jolt at the end bring huge smiles and absolute enjoyment to both him and me. It seems to happen overnight. Transformed into a proper little boy!! Jumping in puddles, muddy trainers, soaked trousers and mud splattered face can’t disguise the fun he’s having. Let him do it, his mum can wash the trousers after she puts him to bed tonight.

Home for lunch, an afternoon cuddling in front of TV, playing games and then the time approaches to take him back. A brief moment to see his angelic face asleep in the car before carrying him from the car, still deep in sleep. A brief kiss goodbye and then time for my heart to be heavy reflecting the wintry evening. Another two weeks to wait for the sun to lift my spirits once again.

Sunday, the weather has cleared, the forecasted sunny spells last all day. Time for dad to jump in puddles, get wet feet, splattered face. Out of bed, dress for the days adventures, hyrapak filled, energy bar bppacked, wrist ice medical identification wristband put on, specially made for cyclists by ICE ID just in case and load the car for a days mountain biking at Swinley Forest.

3 hours of mountain biking, a roast dinner at my parents with a glass of claret and sit down to watch the results of X-factor. Watch jamie get booted off and reflect that the competition is farcical. Not because Jedward are still in, we all understand why, but because the worst singer in the contest somehow gets through another sing-off!! Tactical voting from Loius and teenage girls to blame for that one.

A perfect weekend comes to an end.
